Trends in Lip Augmentation

The main trend in lip augmentation at Skin Resus is the move to lower volumes with a natural look and shape.

We dislike ‘alien’ distortions of the normal anatomy of the lips. The most common example of this is the ‘Russian Lip’ where an exaggeration of lip height with a border ledge is seen. The ‘Korean Lip’ is similar with very full central lip areas. Both lips styles can appear ‘stuck on’ and the reality of the treatment often does not match the sometimes photo-shopped images on the internet.

Lip augmentation at Skin Resus is usually performed with soft product using the 31g needle – the smallest practical needle for this application. Volumes added are very frequently less than 1ml, very commonly 0.5-0.6ml; this has several advantages. Firstly, normal lip anatomy and function is preserved with a gentle enhancement. Secondly, the treatment is very gentle on the tissues and post-treatment bruising and swelling are minimized. Thirdly, the risk of ischemic side effects are minimized due to the injection of small aliquots superficially in the lip tissue.
