Solutions for Wrinkles
As we age, our skin loses the ability to ‘bounce back’ from facial expressions, meaning expression lines such as frown lines, crows feet and smokers lines become more obvious. Improvement of these lines and wrinkles is in many cases quick, safe and effective. A series of small injections to address these is one of the most popular treatments in our clinic and the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure in the world.

Smoothing Injections
Injections which introduce a medicine which reduces muscle activity can result in a quick improvement of lines and wrinkles. This treatment is particularly useful for frown and forehead lines and for crow’s feet. They also have a role for upper lip and neck lines.
Reducing muscle activity can also help where headaches or bruxism (teeth grinding) are a problem.

Lifting Injections
Injections which introduce a gel to lift wrinkles have been used for 20 years at Skin Resus. They have many applications including lifting and effacing fine lines: for example, over the top lip, smile lines lateral to the mouth, and even forehead or sleep lines; deeper lines and folds such nasolabial lines and marionette folds; and volumising injections such as for lips and cheeks.

Hydrating Injections
Wrinkles and textural skin problems can be assisted by an injectable treatment which deeply hydrates the skin. The treatment is safe and simple, requiring 5 – 6 injection points on each side of the lower face for example. The product then diffuses through the skin profile over the next few days. It remains present for 6 months providing constant hydration. These injections may be combined with other wrinkle smoothing and lifting injections for excellent results.
Treatment safety is excellent with side effects mostly limited to small visible lumps present for 1 – 2 days and occasional bruising.

Erbium Laser Resurfacing
Laser Resurfacing is a treatment to reduce lines and wrinkles, skin laxity, uneven pigmentation, acne scarring and other scarring. It is ideal for the face, neck, chest and hands, and restores healthy, younger-looking skin in just one or two treatments. For treatments on the neck, chest and hands, a lighter resurfacing treatment is performed (ProFractional Laser Resurfacing). For these areas two or more treatments will be required.
What Can I Expect After the Erbium Laser Resurfacing?
Immediately after the treatment, the skin will be cleaned and cooled and a soothing balm will be applied. You will have a burning sensation similar to sunburn for several hours. Your skin will also feel tight, but in most cases, there will be little pain. There will be some mild swelling and sometimes pin-point bleeding, which will dry overnight. Your skin may show a fine pin-point pattern as a result of the fractional laser beams.
For up to a week after the treatment you will see notable redness and moderate swelling, as well as a prominent dry scale/crust on the skin surface. Vaseline should be applied to the face at this time to keep it moist and provide a protective barrier. Peeling will occur after 4-6 days. While the redness will improve markedly from this time, some pinkness can persist for several weeks. This is easily covered with mineral makeup.
Significant improvement in the tone and texture of the skin will be apparent 2 – 3 weeks after treatment, with collagen stimulation continuing for 3 months.
Erbium Laser Resurfacing After Care
As you can see from the images above, there is significant down time after an Erbium Resurfacing Laser, but don’t worry – our lovely team will take good care of you and your skin throughout the recovery process.
After your treatment we will give you a take-home kit with everything you need to care for your skin in the weeks that follow your Laser Treatment. We also provide a week’s supply of anti-viral medication at no charge. This is to prevent an outbreak of cold sores which, if it occurs, can be severe after Laser Resurfacing.
We like to keep a close eye on you after your treatment, and encourage clients to come in 3 – 4 times (or daily if desired) in the week following your Erbium Laser so our nurses can examine your skin and make sure you are healing well. During these visits we also offer complimentary Dimalux LED light therapy, which helps to speed up healing and reduce redness.
Are there any side effects from Erbium Laser Resurfacing?
In general, Erbium Laser resurfacing is very safe, though some side-effects can occur:
- Redness will be seen in the week after treatment and this can persist for some weeks afterwards.
- Oozing and crusting is expected for the first 3 – 5 days after a resurfacing treatment. We will give you all you need to care for your skin after the treatment.
- Cold sore outbreaks can occur – antiviral medication will be provided to prevent this.
- Temporary increase in pigmentation can occasionally occur, and is more likely in darker skin types.
- Mild acne outbreaks can occur in susceptible individuals.
- A period of skin redness follows resurfacing and may persist for some weeks or months in strong treatments.
- Blisters are very rare but can occasionally occur. These are temporary.
- Bacterial or fungal infections are rare but are possible with any deep laser treatments.
- Loss of pigment or scarring is very rare.
Fibrolift Pen
The Fibrolift is a popular non-invasive, skin lifting, tightening and rejuvenation device primarily used to treat wrinkles, and sagging, crepey skin.
Our trained nursing staff staff use a Fibrolift Plasma Pen (not the same as the micropen) that converts electrical energy to electrostatic energy to create nitrogen; when placed 1mm from the skin, the nitrogen is mixed with oxygen to produce an arc of plasma which discharges onto the skin. This causes a micro-trauma to the skin’s epidermis (top layers) whilst simultaneously disrupting the dermis (deeper layers) via thermal conduction. This treatment is also known as fibroblasting, giving the name Fibrolift. Fibroblasts are the most common cells of connective tissue in the body that produce collagen.
This micro-trauma immediately stimulates the healing process, growing new cells and increasing the production of collagen in the area, in turn plumping, tightening and lifting the skin.
What areas can be treated with a Fibrolift?
Plasma Pen can be used on any area of the body but is most commonly used on the skin of the face and neck including:
- Crows feet
- Sagging Eyelids
- Under eyes
- Crepey neck
- Smoker’s lines
- Marionette lines
- Smile lines
- Forehead lines
- Cheeks and jowls
- Stretchmarks
- Skin tags
What does a Fibrolift treatment feel like?
Whilst non-invasive, Fibrolift is considered moderate in terms of discomfort. The area treated and any personal sensitivities will greatly influence how your treatment feels. We apply a numbing cream to reduce as much discomfort as possible.
What is the downtime?
The downtime after a Fibrolift varies greatly depending on the area you have treated. More sensitive areas such as around the eyes can swell for the first day or two before rapidly improving.
Each application of the Plasma Pen will scab over in a very distinctive pattern of small dots. It is imperative that this is allowed to flake off naturally and not picked at as it could delay the healing process. Small scabs or dots will flake off after 6-7 days on the face and 10 – 14 days on the neck or decolletage. Some pinkness and mild swelling may be present for a period after this as well.
We recommend using small amounts of gentle, soothing skincare products during this time and temporarily ceasing any exfoliants including retinol serums.
When will I see the results?
You will notice initial results as the swelling subsides in the first few days. A significant improvement is noticed in 4-6 weeks and full results are achieved at the three month mark.
How long do the results last?
Fibrolift results last for up to three years.
Is a Fibrolift for me?
There are many factors that determine if you are a candidate for a Plasma treatment. Skin that is prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and hypertrophic scarring, and darker skin tones may not be suitable for this treatment. A consultation is required for Plasma Pen treatments.
Other Information about Lines & Wrinkles
What is the treatment like?
This solution for wrinkles is one of the easiest and most effective. After discussing your concerns and agreeing on a treatment plan, the area is gently cleaned. Then a series of tiny injections are placed in the area where lines occur. This is quick and fairly painless. The maximum effect takes a few days to reach and results will usually last 3 – 4 months, though this can be longer or shorter depending on the individual response. If treatment is stopped, the muscle’s actions always return to normal.
Will my face look frozen?
No – we need to retain expression and emotion. Our Doctors and Nurses aim for subtle treatments which dramatically reduces lines while still allowing movement. As we say about all cosmetic injections, “the ones you notice are the bad jobs”.
Is this treatment option right for me?
Ask yourself:
- Are the lines most obvious when you make the expression, e.g. frowning, smiling, raising brows or pursing lips? In this case, this solution can offer a safe and effective option. Call and talk to our team to find out more.
- Are the lines there when your face is resting? In this case, this option alone will not remove the lines, though it will reduce them over time. To treat these lines, we would use an alternative option. A combination is often advised, with the one used to plump the deeper lines and the other to prevent new lines.
- Still not sure? To get the best advice on the right treatment for you, come in for a free consultation with one of our Registered Nurses.
